Tourists look on in horror after finding a dead body of a ”murdered” woman buried in the SAND.
Dozens of holidaymakers were on the beach on holiday island Koh Samui, Thailand, yesterday afternoon.
But after one woman noticed a smell coming from an area of the beach she scratched at the surface and saw clothes sticking out.
Horrified onlookers realised it was a BODY and called police who dug the dead woman from the shallow grave.
Officers said they believed the female in her 40s had been dead for around three days and found a stab wound on her abdomen.
The island is just 40 miles from notorious Koh Tao where an investigation into the death of Belguim touirist Elise Dallemange was last week re-opened.
Police have now launched a murder investigation amid fears the foreign woman, who was not Western, was targeted for a gold necklace.
Lt. Col. Chanaworasin Supanarak, the head of Bophut Police Station on the island said: ”On July 3, 2560, at 15.40 am, the radio communication center at Bo Phut was notified from the villagers that a body was found dead in the sand.
‘’We informed Col. Phusaroj Noppin, Deputy Inspector-General and other officers to conduct an investigation at the scene.
”The police officer gave the rescue officer a scoop of sand to remove the corpse. One meter deep was found lying on the side of a woman about 40 years old, wearing a black t-shirt.
”There were sharp cuts in the abdomen. It is expected she had been dead for around three days.
”Police checked the surrounding area. One pair of flip-flops, one coin purse and one gold cloth bag were found as evidence.’’
Officers interviewed witnesses at the scene and are checking CCTV to trace the suspected killer.
