This is the bizarre moment a policeman punishes two schoolgirls he caught riding motorcycles without helmets – by making them run RINGS around his bike.
The traffic officer spotted the teenagers in school uniform riding together on a small 100cc moped in Phuket, Thailand.
He pulled them over and told them off – before having a short discussion about what they should do as punishment instead of a fine.
The girls admitted they were riding illegally and agreed to run circles twenty times around the officer’s black police motorbike parked up at the roadside.
Motorist Lek Sparrow recorded the scene while he was waiting in traffic on Tuesday.
He said: ”The girls were caught riding without helmets. The officer pulled them over and they admitted the offence.
”They had a short discussion about what they should do as punishment as they didn’t have money.
”It’s more sensible to give them a telling off and do this than go through all the paperwork of fining them. This should teach them to ride with their helmets next time.”
Riding motorcycles without a helmet in Thailand is illegal but the law is widely broken – particularly outside of the major cities.
Thailand’s roads are the second deadliest in the world with almost 25,000 killed in 2013 – or 36 deaths per every 100,000 people.
However, the authorities are making efforts to improve safety standards and yesterday (Wed) launched a campaign encouraging children under 15 not to ride motorcycles.
