Police were investigating after the butchered body of a pensioner with a bullet wound in the chin was found hanging from a 31 storey apartment block in front of horrified tourists.
Max Holden, 69, from Oslo, Norway, plunged from the top of the tower block in Pattaya at around 9am on November 14.
His blood-covered body – with a gun shot wound below his mouth which penetrated his skull – was seen hanging from building. He was wearing shorts, trainers and a plastic poncho style rain coat.
Police and fire crews spent three hours abseiling down and recovering the corpse – instead fo hoisting it back up – in order to ”preserve evidence”.
Cops found several knives in Max’s room and are now investigating the mystery death amid suspicions he could have been killed before being hurled from the building.
Pattaya Police Chief Apichai Krobtech said: ”The body was suspended from the 31st floor and hanging down until the 29th floor. The natural disaster relief team to had to rappel down the building to recover the body for evidence without disturbing it.
”We will investigate how he died and find the true cause of death. Currently we do not know what it is. The body has been sent for a forensic examination.”
The Norwegian had been living on the 23rd floor. His body was tied around the neck with a long red nylon climbing rope which was attached to a fire hydrant taps on the roof of the North Shore condominium building.
Initial examinations showed dozens of slash wounds and a bullet wound below the chin which had penetrated the top of his skull. There was also a note written in Norwegian.
The body could be seen from kilometers away across the popular tourist town.
Local resident Pammy Banyensakul, who lives in a building around 100 metres from the scene, said: ”There was blood on the wall of the building. I was leaving for work in the morning and saw a lot of people looking up at it. There were a lot of police trying to get the body.
”It was very traumatic. I’m shocked that the person was hanging from the building like him. Many people saw the body hanging there because it took a long time to get it.”
