This was the shocking moment a broke Thai wife held up a gold shop with her four-year-old daughter waiting outside – after gambling away her foreign husband’s money.
Wassana Ngamlun, 24, received 200,000 baht from her from her western husband to pay for expenses in Udon Thani.
But she spent the cash on lottery tickets and card games with locals – before realising he would be angry when he returned to see her from his lucrative job in Israel.
Wassana picked up her daughter from school on Monday afternoon and at 4.45pm was caught on CCTV prodding a handgun into the owner’s back as she demanded they hand over their valuables.
Another man crouched behind the counter while handing over gold at gun point.
With the youngster sitting outside, Wassana calmly made off with gold jewellery worth 100,000 baht and 30,000 baht in cash.
But following a police search, she was recognised by her dark tattoo eyebrows and officers arrived at her home to make an arrest.
The pink Hello Kitty branded seat covers were also still on her car – matching those identified by witnesses when he drove away. The cash and jewellery were also stashed at her property.
Wassana told officers that she had spent all her husband’s money and needed to have some to show for when he came to see her.
She said: ”I have a gambling addiction. I play about 10,000 baht a day. My husband sent me money every month while he worked in Israel.
”He is coming back in July and I was worried he would ask where the money had gone. I bought a gun and bullets and made a plan to steal the gold to replace this.”
Wassana said she paid 9,000 baht for the gun and on the day of the robbery she picked up her daughter from school in the Nong Han district of the province.
Police Colonel Cheowchan Meechai, Superintendent of Udon Thani Police Station, said officers studied CCTV of the crime. They arrived at Watsana’s home and recognised her car as the one shown on cameras outside the gold shop.
He said: ”The Toyota Altis was parked outside the two-storey wooden house and it had pink Hello Kitty seats which matched the details seen at the robbery.
”The face of the villain shown on CCTV from the shop also matched that of the woman at the home. Her eyebrows matched and her figure was the same.
”She confessed that she had used the gun to steal jewellery and cash from the gold shop.”
