Holly’s Coffee On Sukhumvit Road Has Closed Down

Holly’s Coffee on Sukhumvit Road has closed down. Sadly, the 24 hour cafe in the heart of Bangkok’s prime night life strip wont’t be opening again.

Situated around halfway between Soi Cowboy and Soi 4, home of the Nana Plaza, Holly’s Coffee was a popular pit stop for night owls of all shapes and sizes.

The coffee shop was once the favoured hang out of ladyboys working the night shift and and Chinese, Japanese and Korean mongerers who would take their bar-fined gogo girls there for a night cap. Not to forget the hoardes of Thai students who would buy a single drink and stay in there all day working on their assignment. Rude staff, overpriced drinks, toilets that looked like half a zoo had used them and seats upstairs with more holes in than a coyote’s fishnets… none of those things mattered, because, despite being yet another branch of a faceless conglomerate, the place had character.

Many tourists would sit outside and watch the sea of colourful people walk by at night. Sadly, the Holly’s Coffee on lower Sukhumvit Road won’t be opening again. Korean chain Tom n Toms has take over the property and will open soon. When, nobody knows. The store closed around mid-October and despite posters saying the new coffee shop is ‘coming soon’, that could be next month or next year. Goodbye Holly’s Coffee Sukhumvit Road!
