This was the horrific scene today after a 170ft tall crane collapsed killing five construction workers in Thailand.
The giant yellow tower crane was working on a new office and apartment block in Bangkok when the metal at the base stated to twist ”like a toy”.
Horrific pictures show the tangled mess of metal with the cabin almost touching the ground after it came crashing down while being ”overloaded with weight”.
One stranded worker can be seen dangling from the girders while others were flung to the ground after the tragedy in the Huai Khwang district at 3.30pm.
The operator of the machine was killed along with another man climbing the device, while the other two dead had been working on the ground when the crane collapsed onto them
Four men were pronounced dead at the scene, one later at hospital and two others were severely injured.
Onlooker Khun Worranan Sarasalin said: ”It looks like the crane was too heavy and collapsed with the weight. It bent in the middle.
”It twisted and fell like a child’s toy. It looked so weak, like plastic. The men were screaming and it crashed to the ground very quickly.
”There was no chance for the workers to survive. Some were working on the ground and some fell to their deaths. They were crushed in the metal. They could not move out of the way.”
Police and government officials are at the scene investigating what caused the accident.
