A young British backpacker has been seriously injured after falling from a moving Thai train – three days after taking a reckless selfie hanging out of the window.
Daniel Clarke, 20, arrived in Thailand on March 26 and spent several days travelling before catching a train in the south of the country.
He was found unconscious by the tracks at 9.50am local time (3.50am GMT) today with blood pouring from his nose and mouth and a deep wound on his right leg.
Three days earlier on Wednesday evening, Daniel had shared an image on Facebook of himself with a pal hanging out of a train window with the caption: ”Living it large in Asia!! Fucking loving it!’’
But Daniel, originally from Aldershot, Hants., was noticed on the ground this morning by a passing train driver in the Chumphon province.
It is not known how long he had been on the train – which left the capital Bangkok on Friday night and was destined for Nakhon Si Thamarat in the south.
He had been travelling with friend Ross Wild, who was also pictured smiling in the selfie while hanging out of a train window.
Police Lt. Theerayuth Channok from the Thong Khao district police station close to where Daniel was found said he was now in intensive care.
He added: ‘’Daniel had blood coming from his nose and mouth. He has blonde hair and at the minute we cannot trace the relatives.
‘’He was rushed to Champion Hospital. He is in ICU.
‘’A train driver that was passing the point noticed him lying near the tracks and contacted police and rescue workers.
‘’We believe he fell from the doorway in the centre of the train. There were no friends on the train that have raised the alarm.’’
