A pretty female backpacker has become the seventh foreign tourist to die on ‘death island’ Koh Tao in just three years.
Elise Dallemange, 30, had been living at a yoga and tantra retreat on neighbouring full-moon party island Koh Phangan in between travelling around Asia for the last two years.
She was also part of a sect of the Sathya Sai Baba cult movement and lived with a self-proclaimed ‘’guru” – before leaving the island on April 17 to return to her native Belgium.
But eight days later she was found dead in the jungle on April 28 in Koh Tao having been half-eaten by lizards – with police claiming she had hanged herself.
Elise’s devastated mother Michele van Egten has now revealed she does not believe the police account of events – which is the SEVENTH tourist death in three years on the tiny island now dubbed by expats as ‘’MURDER island’’.
Michelle, who made the events public after appealing for help find information, said: ‘’I do not believe what the police have told us. We fear somebody else was involved.
‘’We’re more and more thinking that the police information is not the right explanation.’’
The full story of what happened to Elise is so strange it is clearly in need of a proper police investigation.
She had been living with a bizarre cult on Koh Phangan run by Raaman Andreas from Germany, who has now disappeared from the island after Michele went over there to investigate.
Elise left the island on April 17, checked in to a resort on Koh Tao on April 19 – using a fake name fearing she was being followed – and then the hut she was staying in burned down.
She was found dead on April 27, half-eaten by lizards in jungle around Tanote Bay. Bizarrely, she hd booked a ferry to take her to Chumphon province on April 24 and her bags actually arrived at the destination, but she did not.
There are far too many unanswered questions for this to be left alone. Cops in Bangkok have now taken it up and promised a report will be made available in three days after the story was published in the British press.
